About
Hi, my name is Tara Gravells BSc (Hons)
I am a MBACP Integrative Practitioner trained in Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy approaches.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” Carl Rogers

Counselling Formulation and Assessment
A counselling Formulation and Assessment is a collaborative process between client and counsellor. It often involves a working hypothesis. This means it is a proposed explanation of a clients situation.
It consists of gathering a comprehensive understanding of a clients presenting problems, background, and relevant factors, before the process of collating the information into a structured assessment.
The benefits of this can include the client feeling understood, promote hope, and guide treatment planning.
*Please be advised there is no diagnosis involved, a diagnosis can only be provided from a medical professional.
ABOUT ME
ABOUT ME
I began training as a Counsellor in 2020 at the age of 42 years old. I have not looked back since, and I have rediscovered my passion for learning. I will continue my learning with a level 3 teaching assistant qualification which I begin in September. I am a link Governor for PSHE in a primary school which I enjoy being apart of. I am passionate about children learning social and emotional development to promote positive future outcomes. I am a mother of four having had my younger two children later in life. I enjoy spending my days off with my family, my cats, and my dogs. I practice Mindfulness in my personal time which I have found to enhance my awareness of my body and helps me to gain more insight into who I am as a person. I am also a Mindfulness Practitioner.
My main areas of interest in Counselling include working with Attachment, Trauma, and Psychiatric diagnosis. How the human brain develops in infancy, to how psychological trauma can impact the brain and how it processes everyday life which can influence a person's decision-making, and behaviour. How living with a Psychiatric disorder can sometimes leave a person feeling different, leading to isolation and difficulties in social settings, and navigating life as a whole. Although I am not limited to working specifically in these area's.
I am also available to offer sessions to anyone who feels counselling would help them, working collaboratively with a client, and watching them gain new skills is a special experience I feel honoured to be apart of. Every client is equally important to me, and I work hard with every client to achieve success for them.
APPROACH
Everyone is individual. How I work is personalised with what a person brings to the counselling sessions. I work confidently with all three modalities of Person-centred, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive behaviour therapy, incorporating the different approaches within the sessions moment to moment. I embed psycho education within the sessions to demonstrate transparency in my work, and to help a client gain awareness of what is going on for them to help them learn about themselves. I believe the only expert in the therapy room is the client, I am just assisting them to strengthen their skills to be able to recognise and make informed choices to achieve better future outcomes they are happy with. I will help clients to become attuned to their thoughts and feelings and their bodies to help them recognise how these can impact behaviours in the moment. You will begin practicing these techniques whilst talking through your story and processing difficult experiences.
